We had a leisurely bright and sunny Sunday going to the Temescal Farmer’s Market in Oakland and shopping at Alley 49. We let the girls, (Mia, Ash and Angie) take the lead and we followed behind them as they chatted up almost every vendor while they sampled their products. They helped choose the produce, paid and carried the bags, I think they quite enjoyed the feeling of independence. We found some good finds to take home. Our favorites included St.Benoit Yogurt which we mixed Blue Chair’s Strawberry Apple Butter Jam with, also found at the market, so delicious! We walked over to Alley 49, (just a few blocks away), which is a a small shopping area spanning two alleys with local artisan boutiques. It has a hipster bohemian vibe and might be our new favorite place to shop in Oakland. All of the boutiques are unique and true to their craft. The girls’ loved being there and again had no qualms when it came to chatting the shop owners. The girls’ were charmingly inquisitive and it was a pretty cool sight to see how interested they were in the artful process of creating products. We took our time browsing the shops and soaked in the creativity in the air. We couldn’t resist getting cream filled donuts from Doughnut Dolly and came just in time before they ran out. After a long busy week, this is an ideal way to spend a Sunday unwinding, before it’s time for Monday (again).
